What kind of online classes do you offer?

I offer a wide variety of tapestry weaving classes for all levels of experience.

You can find out more about all of the courses I offer right here. And register for classes here.

If you’re just getting started and want to dip your toe in, start with my simplest course for new tapestry weavers is Introduction to Tapestry Weaving. This is a short introduction to the basics you need to know and pairs well with my book, The Art of Tapestry Weaving.

If you’re looking for a comprehensive tapestry techniques course for beginners who want to start on the right foot and experienced weavers who want to master the basics better, start with Warp and Weft: Learning the Structure of Tapestry.

If you’re looking for an advanced beginner/intermediate techniques course about color, check out Color Gradation Techniques for Tapestry

If you’re interested in designing for tapestry weaving, take a look at Design Solutions for the Artist/Weaver.

If you want to start dyeing your own yarn (for tapestry weaving or other fiber arts), join Dyeing with Acid Wool Dyes.

You can also find one off weaving workshops here.

What tools will I need to learn tapestry weaving?

I cover general weaving materials and tool resources here. In every class, I go into detail about what materials you will need for that particular class. In general for tapestry weaving you’ll need:

  • a loom suitable for tapestry

  • some kind of tapestry fork

  • warp and weft yarns

  • a tapestry needle

  • a measuring tape or ruler

  • Something to carry the weft such as butterflies, a small tapestry bobbin, or various simple tools like a netting needle, embroidery thread holder, or a small stick shuttle.

You can find more information about materials I recommend for tapestry weaving here.

What are your online classes like? / What have previous students said? / Can I see the kinds of things I will be weaving in class?

You can read a ton of reviews from prior students here. On that page, you’ll also see samples and projects created by students.

My classes are heavily video based. Each class includes several hours of video instruction complemented by extensive handouts with drawings and diagrams.

You have the advantage of interacting with other students in discussion forums, uploading photos of your progress for tips and suggestions (and kudos!). In many courses, you also have the advantage of asking me questions and getting support directly from me.

Courses also have exercises to further your thinking about weaving and to practice the concepts you have learned. Classes are hosted on Pathwright, a platform with clear steps to follow in a linear fashion.

How long do I have access to the class materials?

You can access the material any time you want for as long as you want as long as the online school is live. I will answer questions pertaining to the course content whenever you ask them in the course IF you have purchased a course in which I answer questions.

You’re teaching too fast / too slow!

That’s adjustable! If I’m moving too fast or too slow in my videos, you can adjust the video speed. I host my videos on Vimeo and the video player has a little settings gear icon. Click that and you’ll have the option to change the speed of the video if you want to watch them faster or more slowly.

In which courses do you answer questions?

Some classes are fully supported and some are labeled as self-directed. Self-directed courses come with minimal support.

Check the course description to find out if the course you're interested in comes with full support or is self-directed.

Both fully supported and self-directed classes come with discussion sections where you can interact with your fellow students, and I keep an eye on all discussions. So  I encourage you to put your questions and thoughts into the discussion areas. I will jump in from time to time if I’m not seeing a class discussion about a particular question or if you seem particularly stuck!

If you have questions about a particular class emails support@rebeccamezoff.com

Are there specific start dates?

Most classes do not have start dates. You can register and start class today!

Exceptions: New classes will have announced start dates and live workshops will have specific dates for the workshop. Be the first to know about new classes and live workshops by signing up for the email list here.

Can I see the content of each section?

Yes. If you go to the course catalog on Pathwright HERE, click on each course to see a complete list of steps included in the course. The steps labeled “watch” are videos.

This time of year is so busy! Do I have to do the course material now?

Nope! After registration the course material is yours to use whenever you'd like. If you don't have time for a few weeks or months, that is just fine. You can enjoy the class when you have the leisure to dive in.

Will I be able to communicate with others in the class?

Yes! For many people, shared learning is important. Not only can you ask your classmates questions in the course, but you will get an invitation to a private Facebook group for all of my online students. This is a great place to see what people in other courses are doing and to learn more about tapestry in general. The Facebook group is not required of course. All course-related interaction happens right in the Pathwright platform.

What if I don’t “do” Facebook?

Many people have FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) around the Facebook group. The private Facebook group for my online class members is an additional benefit of my online classes, but it is in no way required. I don’t do any teaching in the group and there is plenty of interaction right in the course platform should you want it. And if you are on Ravelry, the group Tapestry Weaving has a thread for students in my online class where you could also chat with other students.

Do the videos have closed captions / subtitles?

All but the oldest courses have closed captions / subtitles and transcripts generated automatically through Vimeo, and we’re working hard on getting closed captions / subtitles on all of the courses.

If you have questions about a specific course, or are having extra difficulty with a particular video please email us (please include the course name and video) at support@rebeccamezoff.com and we’ll get you an answer.

Do you offer content in other languages?

English is my primary language and since weaving is such a technical discipline, I can only address and answer questions presented in English.

I have had many students for whom English was their second or third language and they have done just fine. I am so happy to welcome people who don’t feel entirely proficient in English to the courses. You do need to be able to understand English well enough to grasp the videos and handouts and I ask that all questions be posed in English. But it is completely fine if the syntax or words are not quite correct! We can work with that!

Is the content downloadable?

Yes and no. The videos are not downloadable. But the handouts contain all the diagrams and many images from the videos and they are downloadable.

What have students who have taken courses already said?

I have a long list of student reviews on THIS page of my website as well as multiple videos of their work.
