Explore new tapestry weaving techniques with Tapestry Discovery Box Classes

Experience the popular Tapestry Discovery Box classes as standalone courses! Each course introduces and explores a specific tapestry weaving technique through the lens of a specific weaving project. 

Follow along to make the project exactly like I show, or use the technique in your own design – there’s no wrong way as long as you have fun with your weaving!

My goal in these classes is to present the techniques and how to use them in a way that is useful for weavers of all levels. Even if you've been weaving tapestry for a while, practicing techniques you're familiar with while weaving focused projects is a great way to cement the concepts and broaden your use of the techniques we're focusing on.

Knowledge required:  We don’t cover the very basics of tapestry weaving in these classes (warping, basic weaving rhythm, etc) so if you’ve never woven any tapestry before, consider taking the Introduction to Tapestry Weaving online class before or alongside these classes. 

Learn about weft bundling, wedge weave, eccentric weaving, building shapes, and more. (Check back often for new boxes!)

The Tapestry Discovery Box is a fantastic way to

• build your tapestry skills,

• get help from a seasoned teacher,

• and interact with other students in the class for inspiration.

Every course includes:

• Introduction video to the topic of the course

• One or more videos teaching the technique and encouraging you to weave a sample practicing it

• One or more topic specific project videos walking you step-by-step through the project

• 2-5 tapestry weaving patterns designed specifically to help you learn the topic covered in the course

• Ask questions and receive answers and feedback from Rebecca and other students directly on the course platform. 

• BONUS: Q&A replays with previous members of the Tapestry Discovery Box

The course contains bonus videos about commonly used techniques along with the ability to interact with the community of people who are working with the same concepts.

How these courses came to be

The Tapestry Discovery Box was a quarterly subscription that included weft yarn from Gist’s popular Array line and a new techniques course from Rebecca Mezoff. 

If you missed out on the subscription or are interested in certain techniques, now is your chance! We are releasing the technique courses for individual purchase. There were 13 installments of the Tapestry Discovery Box, so the process may take some time. Sign up for the email newsletter here to stay in the loop.

Tools & Materials Required:

I’ll talk more thoroughly about materials in each class, but in general you’ll need: 

• Tapestry loom

• 7 colors of weft yarn. (I demonstrate using Array from Gist Yarn, but you can always use a substitute. For some of the boxes you will need to use a weft bundle which means you need to be able to use multiple thin strands of yarn held together. This is true of the Weft Bundling, Color Gradation, Color Harmony, and Complementary Contrast courses.)

• Warp yarn. Cotton seine twine warp is highly recommended.

• A shed stick if your loom doesn’t have a shedding device

• Tapestry fork / beater

Where do I sign up?

You can sign up directly on Pathwright (the learning platform) by clicking one of the buttons above. 

I purchased the original Tapestry Discovery Box subscriptions, do these classes include new content? 

These courses cover the exact same content as the courses in the original Tapestry Discovery Box subscription. We’ve just cleaned up the course content and added a little bit of information about how to make yarn substitutions.

I got some of the original Tapestry Discovery Boxes, but not all of them. How can I find out what I’m missing? 

Login to your Pathwright account here: https://rebeccamezoff.pathwright.com/library/ There you’ll see all of your Rebecca Mezoff courses so you can purchase the courses you don’t have without accidentally purchasing duplicates. 

Alternatively, you can refer to your receipts for the Tapestry Discovery Box from Gist Yarn to find out which boxes were included in your subscription.

When will all the boxes be released? 

We don’t have a release schedule set in stone. But we’re aiming for approximately one box per month with some months off to accommodate other scheduling needs. 

Can I see more reviews?

Do I have to take these classes in order? 

No! These classes are designed so you can take them in whatever order you’d like. 

Will Rebecca answer questions in these courses?

Yes! Students are always welcome to ask questions in class, and I’m always happy to answer them.

What yarn should I use? 

These courses were originally designed with Gist Yarn’s Array, but there are plenty of other yarns you can use. I’ll cover yarn suggestions and substitutions more in-depth in each course. 

Do I have to use the specific colors suggested? 

Nope! You can use whatever colors you want. Each course is woven with seven colors of Array Yarn but you’re welcome to use other colors and other yarns in your creation. 

What if I don’t want to weave the project you’re presenting? 

I always present variations to the project and if a particular project isn’t for you, you can modify the design or come up with something completely different for your project. I actively encourage all design ideas and hope that as you practice, you become better and better at modifying my suggestions or running with your own ideas entirely.
