Having difficulties with the tech in an online course?
If you don’t find the answer to your tech problem below, please do email me. Occasionally things go wonky with the platform or I can give you a quick tip to help you get things working. However, I need more information than, “it isn’t working and I’m so frustrated!” Please take a deep breath. Tell me exactly what is happening. Are there error messages? What happened right before the problem? What browser are you using? If you know how to take a screen shot, that is also very helpful. You can email me with tech issues at email@example.com.

My online classes are hosted on a platform called Pathwright. This system is very stable and fairly intuitive to use, but at first it may not be obvious where all the buttons are. In my course library, there is a free course called Learner’s Guide which will help you get started. The course art is red and it was made by Pathwright. There is a navigation video in the Warp and Weft course and I’ll be updating that video for all the courses soon.
DID YOU REGISTER WITH TWO DIFFERENT EMAIL ADDRESSES OR TYPE YOUR EMAIL WRONG?
When registering, please carefully check your email address before submitting! If you type your email wrong and you don't know you did it, you won't be able to get back into the course. If you do know you typed it wrong, use the wrongly-typed email to access the account and then change your email in your profile. Contact me if you can't get in. I will send you the mis-typed email you used and you can log in with that and fix it in your profile.
If you use more than one email address, please be consistent which one you use for Pathwright courses. If you register for different courses with different emails, you'll have created different accounts and you won't see the courses you expect to depending on which account you're in. This is not easy to fix, so please use just one email address for all my online classes.
I’ve changed my email address. How do I fix that in Pathwright?
Though I have no ability to change your email address, you can do it yourself easily. You’ll find your profile on the top right of all Pathwright pages, Click on “Go to profile settings” and you can change your email address there.
I TRY TO REGISTER BUT THE SYSTEM DOESN'T DO ANYTHING AFTER I CLICK "REGISTER"
Most likely you entered a username that the system would not accept. You should scroll back up and look for error messages. Click HERE for a PDF with some screen shots about registration.
I AM A STUDENT IN YOUR CLASSES BUT THE PLATFORM ISN'T WORKING
The technology troubleshooting sheet that is found in each of the courses can be downloaded HERE. Remember that rebooting or opening a new window can often fix things. Also please note that recommended browsers are Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge. If your system is many years old and you have not updated your operating system or your browser, things may not work. I cannot be responsible for you not doing updates! Internet Explorer is not supported by much of anything these days including Pathwright. May I suggest you download the most excellent Google Chrome?
Most problems, and I do mean at least 90% of them, can be fixed by opening a new Pathwright window. Browser issues are almost always what is happening when a video won’t play or a PDF won’t download. Make sure you’re using an updated version of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Microsoft Edge, open a new window, and most likely your issues will clear up if your internet is working. Internet Explorer is no longer a supported browser for almost anything. Please update to the newer PC browser Edge or download Chrome. Chrome works the best for my courses.
In some cases, you may need to clear your cache to allow your browser to forget the old information it learned. Especially if you’ve been away from the platform for awhile, clearing your cache may be necessary. Google “Clearing cache in X browser” to see how to do that.
Tips for taking clear photos
If you’re uploading photos to the online classes and you want my feedback on them, I do need the photos to be in focus. It doesn’t matter if you take the photos with your phone or any other camera, but the best way to make sure the photo isn’t blurry is to use plenty of light. Take the weaving outside in the shade or turn on extra lights before taking the photo. If you have shaky hands and you own a tripod, using that can solve the problem. But mostly just increasing the light will mean the shutter is open for less time which means the camera won’t catch the moment of your hand and create blur.
WHAT ARE THE COMPUTER SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS CLASS?
You must have an internet connection fast enough to stream video. Dial-up will not be fast enough. Cable, DSL, or broadband of some kind will all work. Browser recommendations are Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Safari or MS Edge also work. It is always best to have the latest version of your browser installed and be running a recent operating system. If you're still running the platform that came on your desktop computer in the 90's, I highly recommend upgrading your computer equipment before trying to access this class. Any of the more recent Mac and PC operating systems work well.
This platform works on iPad and is also mobile responsive. If you pay for your internet by the gigabyte, this course isn't for you unless you are willing to pay for much more data. There are many hours of video to stream.
I cannot tell you what your password is or was. If you mistyped it or wrote it down wrong, that isn’t recoverable. But you can change your password from the log-in page. Just click the blue text that says “Forgot your password?”
I HAVE REGISTERED BUT I CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET INTO THE CLASS!
You should receive an email from Pathwright immediately after registering. If you don't see it, it may have gone to your spam folder. If you can't find the confirmation, go to this link: https://rebeccamezoff.pathwright.com/library/ which is the home page for my classes on Pathwright. From there you can sign in with the password you created when you registered or you can reset your password if you don't remember it.
COMCAST EMAIL ADDRESSES
If you use a Comcast email address and you're emailing me but aren't getting a response, I'm answering but you're not getting my email. There is a known problem between Comcast and Gmail. I will only answer questions from a Comcast account once... and I might send a test email before spending time typing a whole response. If you didn't get a reply to your inquiry, please check your spam filter, but in my experience, the emails just never reach you at all. If you use a Comcast email address, please use an alternative email address to contact me if at all possible. Gmail is nice.
Course questions are not affected.
Are you getting a lot of notifications from the Pathwright platform that you don’t want to get in your inbox? You can manage notifications in several ways.
You can choose whether to get a daily or weekly email digest or turn off notifications completely. Click on the bell icon. Then click the blue text that says “Turn on email digest.”
From there you will see these choices:
Alternatively, you can manage notifications for each question. If you see a question posed by someone else that you want to get notifications for, click the blue “Subscribe” text under the question.
To stop getting notifications about a particular question, go back to the question (you’ll likely have a notification about it, just click the “View discussion” link in the email and it will take you to that question in Pathwright) and click the text that will now say “Unsubscribe.”
AND if that isn’t enough, you can turn on and off notifications for individual courses. Under the main menu (top left slide out panel), click Learn to see your list of classes. It’ll look something like this.
You can turn off all notifications for specific classes by changing those toggles.
Adding a photo to a discussion question from a mobile device
If you are using a mobile device such as an iPad, you will not see the edit functions when you’re trying to add a photo to a discussion question. To fix that, you can request that your device load the desktop version of the app. The following two videos show you how to do that very simple thing. The first one shows you in Chrome, the second in Safari.
The edit functions that you see on a computer in a discussion question look like this. If you follow the steps above to request the desktop version of the app on your mobile device, you will see them on your iPad.
You CAN leave me a comment on a submit step. This is incredibly helpful for me. Do tell me your thoughts about the weaving and what you might like me to comment on. Upload your file and look for the Leave A Comment text right above the “Complete Step” button. You must leave your comment before you complete the step.
You can only upload one photo to a Submit step (though you can make a PDF document with multiple photos). If you upload another photo, it will replace the first and I will not see the first one. If after getting feedback you want to upload another photo, you can do that and I’ll comment again. But do please please tell me in a comment that it is a new photo. Otherwise I’ll just assume you pushed the Reset button for the step and I won’t comment.
I LIVE IN THE MOUNTAINS OF RURAL ALASKA AND I DON'T HAVE FAST ENOUGH INTERNET TO WATCH VIDEOS. WILL YOU HAVE THIS CONTENT AVAILABLE IN DVD FORMAT?
No. DVD technology is on the way out and I won’t be producing DVDs of the courses. Most computer no longer even have DVD drives. The videos are also not downloadable though the other content is.
