What makes a good tapestry yarn?
Registration for this class has closed. I’ll run the class again live with a Q&A on Zoom sometime in 2023. In the meantime, if you’ve found this page, I’ve probably sent you an invitation to join the class late. All the information is there and continued discussions are happening among current students. Join us! You’ll need a private invitation from me, so if you haven’t found that in your email, please contact me at hello@rebeccamezoff.com and I’ll send you one.
About the workshop
We’re going to look at weft yarns for tapestry weaving in this workshop. I’ll talk about what makes a good tapestry yarn, what you can get away with, and what you might do better using for something else and WHY that is! I will show you some of my favorite yarns but my main objective is to help you determine how to evaluate a yarn yourself. I’ll give you some steps to walk through as you try a new yarn that will help you decide when and how to use it or whether it fails the tapestry test. Materials are important. Choose on purpose.
Workshop communication: We will be using my online course platform, Pathwright, to communicate during the course. This is also where you’ll find the recordings and other information after the workshop is finished. You have access for as long as you want it. You can also use the platform to communicate with other students and trade notes about yarns you like. You can find your course at this link: https://rebeccamezoff.pathwright.com/library/ under the category Workshops.
Pricing
The class is $39.
This includes participation in one of the live events as well as access to the recordings of both. This price also includes lots of information about different yarns, handouts, and the opportunity to ask me questions about tapestry yarns in the live event and in the course platform afterwards. You have access to this class for as long as you want it!
Knowledge Required
None! This class is best for people who are newer to tapestry weaving or for anyone who wants more information about how to evaluate potential tapestry yarns.
Preparation
The material for this workshop will be on Pathwright, the platform I use for my larger online courses. After you register for the course, you’ll find preparation materials there so you can get ready for the weaving experience. I recommend setting aside 15 minutes to look through the materials before the live workshop starts. There is nothing extensive you need to do beyond putting the date on your calendar and perhaps looking through they yarns you currently have.
You DO need to register for one of the two live meetings if you can attend one of them. Registration links are in the course.
After the live meetings, we’ll continue the discussion about yarn in the course platform, Pathwright. You’ll be able to upload photos and questions so we can continue learning about the best yarns for tapestry. I’ll provide a framework you can use to evaluate yarns and it would be wonderful if you share your findings with the class.
