I’ve been working on a fun project in collaboration with Gist Yarn. And this week, it is ready for the world. The Tapestry Discovery Box has launched and I’d love to share it with all of you. If you’ve ever wished for an ongoing community of tapestry weavers to talk about and troubleshoot technique and design problems with, this subscription course might be exactly the thing for you.
The Discovery Box is an online course and community paired with a quarterly box of Array tapestry wool from Gist Yarn. Every quarter (January, April, July, October) you’ll get a box of seven colors of Array yarn in the mail and along with it, a new module in the online class. Each quarter I’ll present a new technique and then a project using it with various suggested modifications. The course is ongoing with new material each quarter.
One of the best things about the Discovery Box is the community interaction. Our intention is to create a space where students can learn from each other, get ideas and reflections about their work, and find inspiration for the next weaving. It is hard to find a group of tapestry weavers for support in the in-person world since we’re so scattered around the globe. Online support is the next best step for help whenever you need it both from me and from the community.

Registration is through Gist’s website so head over there when you’re ready to sign up. This is a subscription product so you’ll get a new box of yarn, a new course module, continued community support along with your quarterly subscription charge.
The trailer video below tells you a bit more about the course. If you get the blog via email you can watch the video HERE.
On Tuesday, January 17th at 11am MT (1pm ET) on YouTube, I’ll be talking to Sarah Resnick, owner and creator of Gist Yarn. This company is one I admire a great deal. They are committed to diversity and sustainability including supporting fiber production in the United States. Their Array tapestry yarn is made from sheep living in the western US and it is milled and dyed in North Carolina. (Line your time zone up HERE.)
You can find the live feed link on YouTube HERE and schedule a reminder for yourself if you have an account.
During the event, we’ll talk about how Gist developed the Array yarn line, the Tapestry Discovery Box, and answer your questions. It is free and you don’t have to have a YouTube or Google account to watch. I’ll see you there!
