I pulled out my tapestry diary this week to reminisce about some of the small sketch tapestries I’ve done over the last ten years. I was searching for examples for a class that just started but I also just like to go through them from time to time and remember the things I was weaving about.
I had so much fun looking through my weavings that I made a video for my Patreon supporters about those weavings. I’ve excerpted a bit of that below for you all as well.
If you get the blog via email you can watch the video on YouTube HERE.
If you want to see the full video, it is available on my Patreon for paid subscribers.
I’ve never been someone who wanted to do a daily tapestry diary though there are many people like Tommye Scanlin who not only weave on theirs every day, but are creating a piece of art in the process. I prefer to engage with an idea for one small tapestry and then put it aside and start a new one with the next inspiration. This allows me a lot of flexibility in subjects and I find that what I weave directly relates to my life that day or week. The practice also encourages me to pay attention to something as I make notes about it and then weave something.*
I’m ready for a summer of playing with yarn. I’ve pulled out a few looms and some warp selection and my stashes of small put-up yarns (weaversbazaar and Gist Array) as well as my spindles are near at hand. Let’s weave!
Tapestry diary in process. This one is woven with handspun.
*If you’re interested in my class about weaving simple things from your experiences, you can find out more on my website page about Summer of Tapestry. The class just opened for registration and the first prompt opens May 29th. This is a class that you can access any time. Summers are busy for a lot of people and you don’t have to do the prompts during the two weeks each one is introduced. I will be here with the community of weavers from around the world who is participating whenever you have time to join in. This class is all about fun and not at all about pressure.
If you want to experience the practice in a free mini-course, see THIS blog post from a few weeks ago.
