My book, The Art of Tapestry Weaving, was published a year ago this week. It was a labor of love and I’m pleased at how well-received it has been all over the world.
This week I stopped by my local library and found a copy on the shelves. This was rather thrilling since every time I stop at the bookstore, they don’t have it. I am choosing to believe it has been sold and they buy another and it has been sold and they buy another and it has been sold...
If you haven’t seen the book yet, you can find it hopefully at your local library or purchase your own copy HERE. Find out more about the book on THIS page of my website including the videos and webinars I did when it launched. And if you want a signed copy, I do currently have some copies left in my SHOP which come in a bundle with my newest tapestry course, Introduction to Tapestry Weaving.
It took me awhile to recover from the writing and launching of that book. In fact, I don’t think I really started recovering in earnest until last summer because after it was released I jumped right into teaching the six months of Design Solutions for the Artist/Weaver, Season 2. Writing a book is a lot of work, but I believe it is well into its second and possibly third printing now. Even knowing what I know now, I’d do it again.
The stressful bits were a lot in the editing and photoshoot. (Of course it is possible that I’ve just forgotten all the challenges of writing the thing.) My hope that we’d catch all the errors possible in such a complicated manuscript meant that the editing process really stressed me out. Fortunately my editor Michal Lumsden was the best editor one could wish for on a huge complicated project like this one and she kept me from losing my mind. She also kept me from melting down during the 2 weeks it took to shoot the photos. I wrote about that on the blog HERE. That post was written before I knew what the cover the book would look like. That piece I was weaving late at night near the end of the photoshoot while watching The Hobbit to stay awake? It ended up on the cover. You never know what’ll happen.
I’ve been writing blog posts, some with videos, from questions readers of the book have sent me. I thought you might like a list of those posts though you can always find them on the blog under the category: The Art of Tapestry Weaving.

Thank you for buying, borrowing, and most especially for using the book. Happy weaving!
I always wanted my own library call numbers.
The day before publication date, here was the ranking of the book from pre-orders (thanks you all!). It was ranked on Amazon in other categories in various positions here and there, but having a book with a good Amazon ranking helps sales because the giant company that owns the world pushes them. It seems unlikely an author of how-to books will ever make the NYTimes bestseller list, so I’ll just be happy with this.
Today the book is #3 in rug crafts (?? whatever…) and #8 in weaving. A year later, that is good news! I also noted that for whatever reason Amazon is selling this book for less than half of the retail price today, so if you want a copy and you need a bargain, today is your day. If you don’t need a bargain, please buy the book from an independent bookstore or Bookshop.org. (Or of course from my shop for an autographed copy until I run out—this is part of a bundle with an online course.)
Just for fun, here are some of the images people have sent me over the last year of their copy of the book. I have lost track of many of the names of the people who sent me these for which I apologize. Thank you for the little bit of joy each one brought! Click to enlarge, hover for captions.
